According to one study, cats are more likely to be gifted or found than dogs, which are purchased.

Data from a survey of pet owners suggests that dogs and cats enter families differently. Cats are mostly given or found. And about 70% of dog owners admit that they bought their pets.

Dogs are bought from breeders

This survey, conducted by the French pet association SantéVet, shows that 69% of dog owners have bought their pets. Cats are bought only in 17% of cases. Purring is more often found (27%) or given as a gift (55%).

An important caveat: the cost of a dog is on average twice as expensive as a cat. This fact is explained by the fact that puppies are bought most often from breeders. And it’s not cheap!

Cat owners most often, according to statistics, take animals from shelters or accept kittens as a gift from friends. Thus, people give shelter to those animals that really need it. Plus, it doesn’t empty your wallet.

But, nevertheless, cat lovers seem to be tired of such an alternative: in 2019, only 33% of the people surveyed are ready to shelter a homeless animal. In 2018, there were 53%.
