Pehea e aʻo ai i ka ʻīlio e kani i ka intercom

Quite often, our puppies understand that when the doorbell or intercom rang, it anticipates the arrival of guests. And if our dogs love guests, then they are already starting to get excited, barking, jumping on the door.

It is better to preventively accustom the dog to the fact that when she hears an intercom signal or a doorbell, it means that she needs to run up to your owner, and not rush headlong to the door and not rush at it.

  1. We take the dog on a leash. If suddenly the pet decides that he needs to run to the door when he hears the intercom signal, then he will not be able to do this – the leash will not let him in.
  2. Prepare a treat. You can immediately accustom the dog to the fact that as soon as you hear the intercom signal, run to the place. And on command, after the intercom ringing, we will send the dog to the place.
  3. Arrange with an assistant who, at your command, will start ringing the intercom.
  4. Every time the intercom sounds, feed the dog on the spot.
  5. Answer the intercom, but if at the same time the puppy tries to take off and run to the door, return it to its place and ask the assistant to continue to call. Gradually, you will see how a conditional signal is generated: “intercom ring = I will be fed.” And the puppy will stop striving for the door, but will sit quietly and look at you. Another conditioned reflex is formed: when the intercom rings, you must run to the place and stay there.

Gradually reduce the number of pieces.

Next, you begin to work with the reaction to opening the door. You open the door and immediately close it. Repeat until the dog is perfectly calm to react to this.

Then you play the entire chain: ringing the intercom and opening the door. If you did everything right, you will see that when the intercom rings, the puppy will run to the place and wait for food.
